Can Anyone Clean and Seal My Pavers

It is always important to finish the paver restoration process with a layer of protective sealer to protect your paver system, enhance paver color and ease cleaning routine.

There are many companies out there who offer paver cleaning services but lack the experience and knowledge on how to properly restore your pavers. Proper paver restoration goes beyond just pressure washing the surface. Incorrect amount of water pressure, improper pressure tools, harsh chemicals and generic sealers can all result in irreparable damage to your pavers.

Generic pressure wash companies are generally not familiar with the intricacies of the interlocking paver system and may inadvertently damage your pavers. These types of companies usually just clean the top surface of your pavers, not addressing missing joint sand or protective paver sealer.

1. Incorrect Amount of Water Pressure and Incorrect Tools

Trails and Streaks – Often times, generic pressure washing companies will use a hight jet pressure wash which applies an incorrect amount of water pressure in small concentrated areas which makes it very difficult for the operator to apply an even amount of pressure throughout your entire paver system. This results in white streaks or trails, indicating exactly where water was sprayed and cannot be removed. This is due to the degradation of aggregates within the paver stone, leading to the deterioration of color and even missing pieces of the surface. At PaverWash, we always use a flat, round cleaning tool which ensures even distribution and easily controllable amounts of pressure.

Missing Joint Sand – Another common issue with an incorrect amount of water pressure is the removal of joint sand and damage to the paver surface. When joint sand is removed, this leaves your pavers very unstable and at high risk for shifting. Missing joint sand also allows room for weeds to grow in between your pavers or water to penetrate below the joint sand. Joint sand is a crucial part of your paver system and it is always necessary to ensure your joint sand is refilled after pressure washing to ensure maximum stability. Unfortunately, this service is not always offered or prioritized by generic pressure washing companies.

2. Harsh Cleaners

Cleaning chemicals that are not specifically designed for use on pavers can cause permanent discoloration and other unsightly interactions. Generic cleaning products are often too harsh for pavers and can eat away at the aggregates and color pigments, leaving you with a more stained or uneven surface than before.

3. Generic and Uneven Sealers
